Guide to Good Garden Etiquette

The Children’s Garden is an educational garden. Visitors are welcome to try the produce, but it is important follow the garden rules to preserve the plants and the educational aspect of the garden.

Pick what’s ripe & ready. Check the shed chalkboard for veggies that are ready to be picked. Our list is updated weekly. Please only pick listed items to ensure a continual harvest.

  • Taste sustainably. Leafy vegetables need 5 large leaves to grow well & produce the entire season.
  • Leave roots in the ground. Except for root vegetables like carrots & beets, please don’t pull entire plants. Most plants will continue to produce all season if their roots are undisturbed.
  • Eat what you pick. Try something new or pick an old favourite. Take a taste or a handful. Stems and pods can be added to the compost bin.
  • Plants are living things. Please be gentle with them.
  • Garden Days! Visit on a Garden Day. Meet the Garden Manager, help out with planting and harvesting & learn more about what we grow. Days are posted on social media, via our email list & at the garden gate.
